This month the entire staff at Medit joined with local and community organizations to help deliver yeontan, a type of charcoal briquette, to those without heating. Yeontan became widespread in the mid-1900s but largely disappeared in the 90s and 00s as Korea developed into one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world.
However, there are still families that rely on yeontan as their main source of heat and many of them are unable to carry and stack the heavy briquettes. This year the Medit staff helped carry over 6,000 yeontan to families in Seoul, Korea.
While it is only small portion of what these families need, we hope it is able to provide some relief and comfort during this cold winter season.
